Valerie Lynch

"Let the beauty of what you love be what you do."-Rumi "I love beauty. I try to see the magic in everything and the interconnectedness of life. The process of creating is a union between body, mind and environment. It is meditation in action. I want to share that energy with the viewer. I want to communicate a shared connection. My work is figurative and abstract moving back and forth and somewhere in between." Valerie Lynch has been doing art since she was a child. Brought up by an artist and art director father and a nurturing loving mother, she has been able to experience the art process throughout her whole life. Graduating Carnegie-Mellon with a Fine Arts degree she went straight into advertising at Ogilvy and Mather as an art director for ten years. Getting her Masters in Art Education at night, she left advertising and became a high school art teacher for 13 years. In 2008 she took a leave of absence and has decided to leave teaching and paint full time. Valerie paints from life and uses her original photographs. She works in her studio or en plein air. Valerie works primarily in watercolor, acrylic, pastel and encaustic. Her monotype work uses various water based medias and inks. She uses both acrylic and gelatin plates. Prints are made on a press or by hand. She lives happily in South Salem with her husband Peter and step-daughter Jen and their fabulous felines.
